As the proud owner of my third Golden Retriever, I take special delight in highlighting the Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada. They are a non-profit organization that places abandoned Golden Retrievers with new owners. They provide medical attention, foster homes, permanent homes, and good old-fashioned love for these dogs without a “furever” home.
Volunteers for Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada
The Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada operates with volunteers and there are no paid employees. Some dedicate several hours per day while others are limited to shorter volunteer time. Regardless of the time spent volunteering, they all do it for the love of Golden Retrievers.
Volunteers help in a variety of different ways. While some dogs are waiting to be adopted they require foster families to love and take care of them. Foster families are carefully chosen to meet the needs of each individual dog. It is a rewarding experience, although sometimes a bit emotional when it is time to release the fostered dog to new owners.
Everyday operations of the Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada require phone calls to be made or returned. Some of those that donate their time help by distributing brochures to veterinarian offices. Volunteers are also needed for transporting dogs that are coming in to the rescue.
Placing a dog with a new family is not taken lightly. Volunteers conduct home visits to prospective new parents. They also review the applications to make sure it is a proper new family, which meets all the requirements needed, to make a happy new home for these precious Golden Retrievers.
Fund Raising for GRRSN
As you can imagine, the organization needs quite a bit of donations to run smoothly. Through the year, there is a variety of different fundraisers (again run by volunteers). Several Las Vegas’ businesses also donate their services to help.
Donations to Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada are always appreciated and needed. Their website provides an easy way for donations to be made. Check with GRRSN (and your accountant) for the specifics about the applicable tax deductions.
A Little Bit about the Breed
The Golden Retriever is one of the most popular breeds of dog in the United States. They are very intelligent and thrive on pleasing their owners. Families with children have found them to be a wonderful addition to their family. They are well-known for their abilities to be therapy and service dogs because of their gentleness and caring.
Dogs for veterans to help them with PTSD and physical problems, has been shown to be a remarkable way to help our returning vets. Goldens have become one of the favorite dogs for helping our returning soldiers.
Goldens come in a variety of different colored coats, from dark reds, to the more golden color, to a very light blonde color. Their flowing fur, with long feathers, makes them a remarkable sight to behold.
Goldens are generally good hunting dogs. Their “soft” mouth makes them excellent retrievers. Most of them love to swim. Any body of water, like pools, streams, lakes, and oceans, are fair game for these great swimmers.
Be a part of the Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada
GRRSN needs your help. If you can volunteer your services, time, or money it will be greatly appreciated. If that is not possible, you can still help by getting the word out about the Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada. The more people that know about GRRSN the more Golden Retrievers that can be placed in new “furever” homes.
