5 Very Cheap or Free Things to do in Las Vegas

When I first got to Las Vegas I realized that you can go through a lot of money, and do it very quickly if you aren’t careful. As a young person I don’t want to spend all my time at home, so I’ve looked around, and come up with a go to list of free things to do in Las Vegas for entertainment. Here are 5 things to do in Vegas, that will cost you next to nothing.
Things to do in Vegas that Won’t Break the Bank
1. Going to Red Rock Canyon—Red Rock Canyon is a beautiful place to hike and experience the wonderful Nevada weather and scenery. They offer a 13-mile scenic drive, with multiple places to get out and walk. It is a wonderful place to escape the city life and get back to nature. There is a small charge to enter take the scenic drive through the park but you can enjoy the beauty of Red Rock for free by driving or hiking nearby.
2. The Pinball Hall of Fame—This Museum is the largest collection of pinball and amusement games in the world. Walking through the museum is impressive, with machines dating back to the 1930s! The museum is open from 11 to 11, and for a few bucks you could spend the entire afternoon playing on machines that your grandparents could have played.
3. People watching on the Strip—Las Vegas is a city full of diverse, and sometimes just plain strange people, and one of the best places to catch them all together is on the Strip. One of my favorite things to do is walk the Strip (great exercise!) and watch the tourists who are ready to cut loose. A lot of people come to Vegas to let loose a side that they would never dare show where they live, and that transformation can be absolutely fascinating to watch. And as if the tourists aren’t enough of a show there are tons of performers lining the street, some of them actually quite good, like the guy who is apparently made of rubber and folds himself up into a 12”x12” glass box. People watching is a great way to stay entertained for hours.

4. Fremont Street Concerts—Downtown Vegas’ Fremont Street is known for its old Las Vegas style casinos and hotels, and for being far cheaper than the ones on the Strip. Another draw to the area is the free concerts that are put on under the light show. Last Friday night I just happened to be in the area and was able to catch the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s cover band. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Their calender of events will keep you posted on upcoming events.
5. Free Gaming Lessons—Many hotels offer free lessons on table games for players new to the game that teach the basic rules and strategy. A crowded table in a casino always looks to be like so much fun. But to a new player that can be pretty intimating and may prevent some from trying them out. I’m not much of a gambler so I haven’t tried this yet but it looks like it could prove interesting and be a great learning experience. Games generally include blackjack, craps, roulette, and poker. A good bet is to ask the hotel you’re staying at if they offer lessons. The Hard Rock offers free poker lessons on Sundays at 10:00am with a complimentary Bloody Mary bar.
Vegas doesn’t have to mean spending all your cash and going home broke. There are plenty of free things to do in Las Vegas.
